U.S. Route 66 spans 2,448 miles from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, celebrating its official 100th centennial anniversary in 2026.
Established on November 11, 1926, the historic highway (“The Mother Road”) crossed eight states and served as a vital migration and economic corridor before being decommissioned in 1985 after full interstate replacement. Today, parts of the iconic route are preserved as scenic byways, national projects, and living Americana tourist attractions.
