Nishant Jain

Nishant Jain carries a small sketchbook to capture human activity in public spaces. After leaving a PhD program in Neuroscience to pursue his dream of becoming a writer—and subsequently hitting writer’s block halfway through his debut novel—he turned to drawing as a creative outlet. In Chicago, Nishant discovered endless artistic inspiration, launching an unexpected journey as an artist. As a self-taught (sneaky) artist and immigrant in North America, Nishant’s work explores his fascination for how cities enable diverse populations to coexist in harmony. His distinctive style features clean lines and a minimalist approach to detail.

Nishant combines his art and writing in a weekly newsletter—The SneakyArt Post—where he talks about using a sketchbook habit to better observe city life. He is the host of the popular SneakyArt Podcast, conducting in-depth conversations with urban sketchers around the world. His work has appeared in news media globally, and he even served as artist-in-residence for the public transit system of Vancouver (Canada), where he now resides. Last year, Nishant became a father and enjoys making daily drawings of his son. Later this year, Nishant is releasing a book to help readers build a sketchbook habit to reclaim their attention spans and reconnect with their urban environment.
