Jenny Jing Zhang

Jenny Jing Zhang is an urban sketcher, artist, architectural designer, and educator based in Chicago. Her passion for sketching and drawing began in childhood, shaped by experiences sketching on location in various cities across her native China.

Jenny specializes in freehand mixed media including watercolor, watercolor pencils and pastels. Inspired by Paul Klee’s belief that “A drawing is simply a line going for a walk,” her work emphasizes expressive, fluid lines that evolve organically. Her approach captures the essence of urban environments with dynamic compositions and a balance between structure and spontaneity.

In 2022, Jenny received a prestigious Fellowship to conduct urban sketching in Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy, an experience that profoundly influenced her artistic perspective. Her work has been exhibited at several venues, including her first solo art exhibition at Artful Framer Studios in 2024. Jenny also contributed to public art by creating a 35×6 square meter mural at Soldier Field.

As an educator, Jenny has taught workshops at the USk Chicago Seminars in 2019, 2022, and 2024, as well as at Artful Framer Studios and through online platforms. Her expertise has been recognized internationally; she was selected as a guest artist for the Carnets D’Hiver 3rd Edition Sketching Festival in Paris, where she will showcase her art and lead a workshop.
