Don Yang
Born in Seoul, Korea, Don Yang came to the United States in his late teens. After 7 years of service in the U.S. Army, he pursued his childhood dream of living as an artist by studying fine art and illustration at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, where he earned a BFA with honors and later an MFA with emphasis on fine art and traditional illustration.
Since 2002, Don has taught oil painting, figure drawing, artistic anatomy and fundamentals of art classes at the American Academy of Art, where he has also served as Chairperson of Fine Art Department and Foundations Department for 11 years. Currently, he also teaches a weekly oil painting class and portrait drawing class in his studio at the historic Fine Arts Building in downtown Chicago. Painting outdoors in the Chicago area as well as in his studio, he frequently exhibits his work both in group shows and solo exhibits. Don is an active member and teacher of PAPC (Plein Air Painters Chicago) where he often teaches plein air painting workshop for its members. He previously taught USk Chicago Sketch Seminar workshops in 2016 and 2018. His paintings and drawings are collected by art enthusiasts throughout the United States.
