Mary Jo Ernst

Mary Jo Ernst is a creative who wears many hats. Her style is whimsical and expressive, whether it be sketching or painting. She chooses to work mostly with pen and ink because of the unexpected results that can be achieved and the easy setup, which allows quick captures of moments in time.
Mary Jo has been teaching since 2018 when she taught her first workshop at the Chicago Pen Show, followed by co-teaching the “Fountain Pen World” workshop at the 2018 and 2019 USk Chicago Seminar. For the past 5 years she has taught a variety of art classes at the White Lake Arts Council in West Michigan. After living in Chicago for 37 years, she recently moved to West Michigan where she co-founded USk West Michigan, a newly approved chapter of Urban Sketchers global and the first chapter in the state.
Mary Jo enjoys travel sketching and also takes advantage of the beauty of her local area. She can often be found out and about sketching in her small town and she enjoys the connections that she makes while gathering with others to create. Her goal is to encourage everyone to make a mark, any mark, without holding back. It is never too late to start!
