Folding Pages = Unfolding Sketches

Mário Linhares (Lisbon, Portugal) studied at the Artistic School António Arroio, and holds BA degrees in Landscape Design and Industrial Design. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Visual Arts Education, and is currently doing research for his Ph.D. in Fine Arts, specializing in Drawing.
Mário is passionate about travel and sketching. He has been teaching drawing classes since 2001 to students of all ages. He draws compulsively, on sketchbooks made by his wife. Many of these record his wide travels: he has filled more than 100 sketchbooks, with drawings from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, England, Germany, Czech Republic, USA, Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and East Timor.
Mário founded Urban Sketchers Portugal in 2009 and joined the International Executive Board in 2011. He served as Education Director of Urban Sketchers until 2019, coordinating programs like the Workshops Program, the 10×10 Program, and the USk Symposium educational content. He is co-author of the award-winning travel book, “Carnet de Voyage | Côte d’Ivoire,” and contributes to exhibitions, lectures and books about urban sketching worldwide.
