Gold Coast Ink and Watercolor Cityscapes

INSTRUCTOR

Paul Ingold

DESCRIPTION

Explore Chicago’s historic Gold Coast neighborhood while learning simple techniques for capturing a streetscape scene with pen and ink and a limited watercolor palette, with an emphasis on color harmony.  Students will create preliminary sketches in ink and then add light passes of watercolor, experimenting with using at least three different complementary pigments of the color wheel, alongside a few colors.

LEARNING GOALS

In this workshop, participants will:

  • learn to key in on a main subject in a busy atmosphere that will be the focal point of the sketch

  • develop a good understanding of how similar color values can have completely different pigment properties
  • have fun!
