Skyscraper Sketching Simplified
INSTRUCTOR
Marek Badzynski

DESCRIPTION
Join Marek Badzynski as he demonstrates how a complex view of Chicago’s skyline can be freed of overwhelming clutter and drawn in a simplified way. Starting with direct ink and watercolor paint in a monochrome value, students will learn to recompose and declutter a busy scene. These skills will be further developed in a second sketch of a similar view using a limited palette of 3 – 6 colors. This class is about improving observation, distilling character and sketching only the essentials.
LEARNING GOALS
In this workshop, participants will:
- learn and practice techniques for simplifying cluttered scenes and how to sketch in ink quickly
- learn how to recognize fore-, mid- and background, and add value to represent a third dimension
- learn how to replace a value with a color pigment mix
